Birds have a very special place in our environment. They bring us pleasure watching their antics and listening to their songs. They eat insects and bugs by the billions that would otherwise be pestering our lives. They all give music to the day, and some even bring music to the night. They are in fact a vital resident of our planet. Birds many times have difficulty gathering the high-quality seeds and food their little bodies require. Some burn so much of their energy just locating food that they live on the edge of nutritional disaster. In cities especially, birds have a difficult time finding proper high-energy food their systems require. If you have somewhere you can place a small feeder and keep it full of quality birdseed you will gain much pleasure and satisfaction for your efforts. As an afterthought, it has been rumored that Father Abraham cursed the cities of S-and-G because the people had placed nets over the trees to prevent the birds from eating the fruit and seeds. Someone else way back there in history wrote a story of what happened to those cities, as well as what happened to Lots' wife who happened to look back upon the destruction. Whether or not we believe that old fable, it is still a fine idea to help feed our feathered friends. Ready-made birdfeeders are inexpensive at many hardware and other stores, and birdseed is exceptionally inexpensive. I cannot understand how the birdseed producers can plant, grow, harvest, package and ship the seeds and have the bags sell for such reasonable prices. It must be that the seeds are produced and marketed by true bird-lovers. Let's all do our part and join with them in support of our feathered friends. This little Junko braved the snow to find one more bite before the cold night settled in. The next day would be at least fourteen hours away, a long time for such small seeds to warm the body. |
